Selati –
a secret tip in the heart of the bushland
Rising steeply, encircled by cliff-dwelling eagles, granite hills, unique plant worlds, and vast savannah landscapes. In the breathtakingly beautiful Selati Private Game Reserve, we share our habitat with Africa's famous Big Five: elephant, lion, rhinoceros, leopard, and buffalo. Out here, in the heart of Greater Kruger, we also have the opportunity to observe cheetahs, hippos, hyenas, wild dogs, giraffes, and many other large mammals. Selati is also home to the largest population of sable antelope living freely in all of southern Africa.
Located in the Limpopo Province, the reserve around the Selati River is a true hidden gem. With few commercial lodges and a limited number of vehicles allowed, encounters with other safari guests are rare, making the stay an exceptionally exclusive experience. Selati epitomizes Africa – we couldn't imagine a more fitting place to start our safari.
THE ACCOMMODATION IN SELATI
The newly built off-grid camp is situated at the foot of a majestic mulberry fig tree, which provides abundant food for birds, bats, elephants, giraffes, various antelope species, warthogs, baboons, and bush babies. A watering hole also attracts a wide variety of animals, increasing the chances of experiencing a unique wildlife encounter right in the camp while leisurely sipping your coffee or sitting around the campfire.
The centerpiece of the first camp is the open lounge area where we gather for breakfast before the safari and wind down the days with regional delicacies. The typical South African boma invites us for a cozy sundowner around the campfire, and we'll use the braai area for an authentic barbecue evening.
We sleep in spacious safari tents, equipped with either a double bed or two single beds, a fan, seating area, electricity, a small desk, and a private adjoining bathroom with a toilet, sink, and shower. Bedding, towels, and environmentally friendly toiletries are provided.
Sustainability is paramount here. The camp is equipped with the latest solar technology to minimize our environmental impact. And for those who have always wanted to shower under the Milky Way, there is an outdoor shower cabin available for four nights.
Makuleke -
untouched Gem in the far North
The Makuleke concession is located in the remote northern part of Kruger National Park – below the Limpopo River border, where South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique converge in pristine wilderness. This area is the ancestral homeland of the Makuleke people, who were displaced in 1968 and reinstated as rightful owners in 1998. As a result, the concession remains inaccessible to regular tourists of Kruger National Park, preserving its untouched beauty.
Makuleke is a hidden gem, renowned for its spectacular, largely unexplored landscape. Despite comprising only one percent of the National Park's area, it hosts an astonishing 75 percent of all animal species found in Kruger.
For birdwatchers too, Makuleke's enchanted bush, mysterious fever tree forests, and grasslands lined with ilala palms and majestic baobabs are a true paradise: Here, you can discover an incredible 450 bird species. In Makuleke's bush, where small wonders meet great ones, there's nowhere else elephants roam through the camp as frequently as here.
For us, Makuleke holds a very special significance: It's where our journey as safari guides began, turning a dream into reality. With limited tourist access to this area, Makuleke is perfect as a training ground for safari guides who can study the natural, unaffected behavior of animals here.
THE ACCOMMODATION IN MAKULEKE
The centerpiece of the unfenced bush camp is a cozy seating area under the shade-giving canopy of an evergreen Natal mahogany tree. Adjacent to it is a fire pit that invites you to unwind with a drink at the end of the day and reflect on your experiences.
We enjoy our meals at a long table outdoors – that's how food tastes best in Africa! We sleep in walk-in safari tents for two people, made of canvas and equipped with single or king-size beds, electricity, clothes racks, and seating areas. Each tent has an adjoining bathroom with a toilet and sink. Bedding, towels, and environmentally friendly toiletries are provided.
Three things that make this Safari so unique
Small Group | With a maximum of 6 participants, we can embark daily on walking safaris. We exclusively use small, remote camps and vehicles, meaning there are absolutely no other guests on site. Secluded in South Africa's wilderness, we have the place to ourselves for the full ten days.
Certified, Experienced Guides | With us, Sabrina and Jan Hendrik as your local guides, Anja and Lars, as German-speaking guides, we can immerse you bilingually in South Africa's nature.
Exclusive Travel Adventure | We will visit two of South Africa's wildest and most beautiful locations, inaccessible to "regular" tourism. Thanks to Anja and Lars, we have put together a journey that you can only book with us, and which may happen rarely, perhaps even just this once.
